Step 1: Reinstall the subframe. First up, reinstall the upper control arms onto the subframe. Use an 18mm socket and wrench to tighten each bolt. When installing the arms, make sure the extended portion of the bushing that sticks out of the control arm is facing the rear of the subframe.
The reinforcement plates are designed to keep it from tearing, not fix the tear. You're going to need to have the rear floor replaced. Again, this is the proper and correct way to fix this, and I understand that people around the forums are welding in various things to fix it DIY. My opinion on a 323 is that it's simple just not worth it.
Alot of e46 guys use special 3M Automix™ Panel Bonding Adhesive, 08115 epoxy to install subframe re-enforcement and as a concept it seems like a great idea. Infact, it is the BMW subframe repair procedure to use this exact adhesive with a cracked subframe. When comparing to welding the advantages are :
